Yay! I found a program (DoubleCommand) for OS X that allows the user to, among other things, disable the caps lock key! It’s now been installed on my computer, so that I don’t accidentally activate the blasted thing. Now if we could just have it installed on all computers by default, or just remove it from the keyboard. The caps lock key is most certainly one of the most foul inventions to have been foisted upon humanity in the last few hundred years.
Misc. Notes
OK, at long last the photo gallery is back. I’ve started the process of moving my stuff to Flickr, so I don’t have to try to integrate Gallery2 and WordPress any more … it was way too painful.
So, I saw on CNN this morning that Bernanke is now “concerned” about inflation. Well, it’s about time! Gold started last year at about $600, and ended it at about $800/ounce. As of the last week, only two months into the year, it’s been hovering around $950. Gas prices are up. Food prices are up. And he’s just starting to be concerned? Please. This is like being concerned about a plane crash after the fourth engine on your Flying Fortress flames out and you just got your tail sheared off by anti-aircraft fire. Most people started worrying when the second engine dropped offline. And Bernanke, bless his little heart, now drops hints that he might lower interest rates again. I guess we might as well go ahead and jettison those wings too and make the inevitable happen a little faster there …
The Story: Roger That. It’s a Man on a Lawn Mower. This reminds me way to much of a cousin of my mothers who actually (hmmm … should I admit this in public?) received a DWI while on a tractor, after his license was revoked for similar behavior behind the wheel of a car.
It’ll be here tomorrow. This is like Christmas as a kid. I might not sleep. I’ve been without a functioning Mac for too long now …
I’ve got my new hard drive installed in the Powerbook (I upgraded from the factory 5400RPM to a 7200RPM drive, which makes things a bit snappier), a fresh install of OS X on the machine, and I’m starting to get things back to normal again. It’ll probably take me a week or so at the least. It’s nice to be blogging using MarsEdit again instead of the lame editor in WordPress …
“GOP rivals debate who’s most conservative.” Yes. Seriously. It might as well say something like “Three athiests and Catholic debate who loves the Virgin Mary more.”
Now this is the life … programming by the light of an oil lantern with the soft beeping of my UPS strips in the background, slowly giving up their battery life to keep my internet access running. EPB? You’ve got about two hours to get my power back on. One hour before I lost the batteries in my UPS strips, and one more hour after that before I start to go into internet withdrawl.
Mouth is dry and parched; tongue sticks to the roof. Feeling dizzy and disoriented. Having hallucinations. Trouble sleeping and bizarre dreams when I do. Probably qualified to be the chairman of the Federal Reserve now.
Sunday’s Pearls Before Swine is the mostest awesomest one I’ve seen yet. “and the wind cry moron” … can’t get any better than that. I love this strip!
