Welcome to my constantly evolving personal web site and blog. I started out writing about all sorts of random stuff, and generally personal news, sprinkled with a bit of sarcasm here and there … and it eventually began to evolve into a showcase for my photography. More recently, I’ve offered commentary on the news, and begun focusing on historic bridges, especially of the steel truss variety.
My name is Jeremy Clifton, and I’m 31. I live in Chattanooga, TN, which is a really nifty place to live. We’re fortunate enough to have two really awesome steel truss bridges downtown! Previously, I resided in Black Mountain, NC for a year and a half after getting married. Black Mountain is just east of Asheville, and is a beautiful place to live in its own right. I miss the mountains there, but I love the river here. Life is a series of tradeoffs, though.
I grew up in the small town of Youngsville, NC, which is a bit north of Raleigh, and I claim Wake Forest, NC as my almost-home-town. Naturally, I loved living there as well. I like to go home as often as possible …
I’ve been married to my lovely wife, Rachel, since November 27, 2004, and we have a beautiful daughter named Autumn, who was born on October 1, 2006.
I’m a Mac user, and a Linux/UNIX enthusiast, and my vocation is web application (and sometimes desktop application) development, and I dabble in design of the web and print variety some, though it’s not my forte. I own my own business, Four-Eight-Four Software Works, LLC (bear with me here, I just registered the business, and I have to make the web site match). The name comes from the Whyte notation classification (4-8-4) of my favorite steam locomotive, the Norfolk and Western Class J.
Hobbies … I’m an amateur photographer. I smoke the occasional pipe or cigar. I collect old hymnals, specifically of the Lutheran variety, and I’m quite interested in the development of the liturgy in the Lutheran church. I’m an armchair theologian as well, and I’m trying to collect Lutheran theological works. I try to read as much as possible. As you probably guessed from my business name, I’m something of a railfan as well, and I specifically am interested in the history of steam locomotives.
