Today’s Debate Exclusion Update

1. According to dailypaul.com number of Republicans from New Hampshire’s House delegation are encouraging the NH GOP to pull their support of the FOX forum if they don’t include Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter. I wish they’d include Keyes in their as well, but two out of three isn’t bad. They also want the GOP to encourage the other candidates to back out and the GOP to have a formal press conference about the matter. I think all are good ideas, and I hope this is exactly what the NH GOP does. (”NH State Reps appeal to NH GOP of FOX follies“)

2. In the mean time, even folks at FOX aren’t sure it’s a good idea to exclude Paul from the forum:

3. It is being reported that Paul supporters are dumping FOX NEWS CORP (Yahoo! Finance: NWS) stock as a way of expressing their displeasure (dailypaul.com: “Fox Stock Dump“) and that this has resulted in a drop in the share price (from about $21.50 earlier in the week to about $20.00 now), though I’m not convinced this is the only explanation for the drop in price given the market’s behavior over the last three days. Personally, I find it hard to believe that enough Ron Paul supporters owned enough FOX stock to be able to sell it and make a significant difference, but I could be wrong. One way or the other, if they are selling with the market behaving as it is, it would seem logical that it would have some effect on the price.

4. In the mean time, as they promised, ABC has cut three candidates from their debates: Gravel, Hunter, and Kucinich (”ABC cuts 3 from presidential debates“).

I haven’t received a single response to my letters to ABC, WMUR, or FOX about the debate exclusions. I was hoping for at least an “thanks for writing, we care about your opinion so that’s why we sent you this form letter we put absolutely no thought into” response, but looks like I don’t even merit that.

I also sent a letter to NH GOP chairman Fergus Cullen and NH Democratic Party chairman Ray Buckley thanking them for condemning the exclusions, and I also intend to do the same for the NH Reps who issued their statement over the weekend.

Overall, it looks like neither FOX or ABC/WMUR are going to back down from their decisions, which is disappointing to me. However, I’m hopeful that NH GOP may derail the FOX forum. It doesn’t look like many people are as concerned about the ABC debate exclusions though.
