Since I haven’t been out to take photos in a while, I’m digging into my archives to pull out some of my favorites from the past …
Those of you who know me know I have a serious bias when it comes to Appalachia. I’ve been known to do things like call the Rockies “those mountains that God gave up on and didn’t finish” while implying that the Smokies got most of His love. And … I have a hard time conceiving of ever NOT living in Appalachia somewhere.
Yes, this coming from a guy who was born and bred in the generally-pretty-flat piedmont of North Carolina, north of Raleigh.
In a way, it’s my parents’ fault. They took me up to the mountains at least once a year (at least that’s the way I remember it) and I learned to love the Appalachians.
But … there is one place in the world that almost rivals the Appalachians in my mind … the Rio Grande Valley.
Rachel’s grandparents live down there, near a small town called Raymondville. I first visited there in 2003, and was instantly in love … even though I was in a place so remote that AOL didn’t have a local dialup number!
Here’s one of my favorite pictures from down there that year …Technorati Tags: photos, photographs, photography, Rio Grande Valley, Raymondville TX
