So, what does one do when one’s wife spends thirty-some minutes in Oak Ridge, TN at night nursing your baby girl?
Take lots of photos, of course, and make the truckers at the gas station and the employees at the nearby Krystal stare and wonder “What in the name of former Tennessee governor Don Sundquist is that guy doing on the ground with a camera at night?”
As far as I can tell, though, the cops weren’t called, but I certainly amused some folks during the whole process.“Fantasy Land” -Â Thisyer abandoned building was right behind the Shell station we stopped at. As you can see, it claims to be open … but was not. The bottom line on the green sign says “PAY INSIDE SHELL“. There was no sign of “putt putt” or “stuff” (except an overflowing trash can, a broken ice machine, and some metal shelving). Also … on the sign, I get the two Pac Man figures. I see the space ship. The writing makes sense. I understand the lightning bolt. But … what in the WORLD is the black dot with the fire shooting out of it to the left of “Fantasy”?
“Shell at Night” - If you look closely, you can see the ghost of Edward Hopper. I’m not being serious.
“Mecca” -Â Fast food, in the form of little, bite-sized burgers. Free wireless. What more could a guy want?
“Educate Me” - What better place to park a bunch of working school buses (I think there were 15 or so) than behind a gas station?
