Southeastern Seminary Photos

Today, I went to Wake Forest and took a bunch of photos on the campus of Southeastern Seminary. About 450, to be precise. I took most of them in full manual mode … the first time I’ve really done that since I got the camera. I also made extensive use of my polarizing filter, and it really made a big difference in drawing out the colors, especially the blue in the sky.

This is the Olin T. Binkley Chapel on the seminary campus. It’s named after the second president of the school. Construction began on it before WWII when Wake Forest College still occupied the campus, but the war interrupted the construction. The seminary finished the chapel in the late fifties. The college seal is still visible on the front of the building (though not in this shot).

This is Wake Forest Baptist Church’s building, also on the seminary campus.

This building originally belonged to the Youngsville Methodist Church, which existed from 1878 to 1929 (assuming that’s what the dates on the stained glass above the door mean). It sat unoccupied for a long time (as far as I could tell) when I was growing up, but it’s now used by “The Church of the Living God.”

Yeah, there’s something about the angle of the shot, combined with the fact that the trees and shadows are almost completely black that gives it a nice, almost surreal feel. Definitely one of my favorite shots so far. :-)
