It’s pretty fun being a parent … at least so far. While I was worried a bit about how well I’d do at the father thing, as soon as I held my daughter the first time, that all vanished. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not … I suppose some concern might keep me on my toes.
Today I took a nap with Autumn on the futon. She slept through the whole thing … so obviously she got the hang of it pretty fast. It was the coolest thing I’ve done in a long, long time.
On the other hand, she doesn’t sleep at night. I’m convinced she’s nocturnal. That shouldn’t surprise me, since I’m the great night worker … though in recent years I haven’t been able to work until five or six in the morning like I could in college and grad school. Autumn, however, has no problem being more or less wide open until the crack of dawn. One the sun is up, though, it’s sleep, sleep, sleep … all day long. This doesn’t mesh well with my current schedule, which requires me to be up and doing things during normal business hours … after all, I am a business owner.
Maybe I should have started this parenting thing when I was younger. Of course, I should have been married younger. Too bad I didn’t know Rachel until so late in my twenties …
Photos … I re-organized my Autumn photo gallery into “My Photos” and “My Dad’s Photos”, and uploaded a few he left for me on a CD-ROM. Yeah, yeah, I hear you family … I need to take more photos. I’ll get to it eventually. Right now I’m working no getting sleep … and trying to get work done. Won’t do to be put out on the street with my new daughter, now will it?
On the photo front, I’m seriously thinking about buying a Canon S3 IS. My dad bought one right after Autumn was born, and I got to play with it for the next few days. It’s not a digital SLR, which I wanted, but it has most of the features I want, and it’s a heck of a lot more affordable. I think it will make a good camera for now … and maybe in a few years I can move up to the SLR.
